An unfilled minute is still a minute well spent
An empty moment often gets filled before we even notice it: a queue becomes a chance to check messages, a short walk becomes another podcast, a cup of tea becomes something to drink while answering email.
These things can be enjoyable. They just do not have to occupy every gap. Sometimes, between finishing one thing and beginning the next, you can simply stay where you are.
Find a place that already exists
Choose an ordinary place: beside a window, on a bench, at your desk. You do not need to tidy the whole room or wait for complete silence. There is no special equipment and no correct atmosphere.
Notice what is already in front of you. A shadow on the wall. Steam rising from a cup. The distant sound of a street. Resist the urge to turn the moment into a project, a photo, or an explanation. It can stay small and unrecorded.
Let it be imperfect
Your mind may keep returning to unfinished tasks. You may feel bored. You may decide to get up after a minute. None of this means you have done it wrong.
Leave the tasks for later if you can, and return to the small thing in front of you. We do not have to become excellent at resting. We can simply make a little room for it, then carry on with the day.
